Our lecture series “Smart Cities” will take place in the winter semester from January 25th to 29th 2021 as an online course or at Technische Universität Berlin (if the situation in respect to Covid-19 allows us to do so). Students will have the opportunity to gain knowledge about distributed stream processing in the context of critical urban infrastructures. During the school, students will learn about different aspects of interconnected critical urban infrastructure (e.g., water, energy, sensor networks) at various spatial and temporal scales. The overall digitalization of such infrastructure and its opportunities and challenges for resilient critical urban infrastructure, are going to be emphasized. Particular emphasis will be devoted to analyse joint strategies for better monitoring and management of interconnected infrastructure, cascading effects, and overall system resilience. Also, they will solve a practical problem format, to be addressed as a teamwork activity. The block course is structured in a series of lectures and exercises provided by lecturers of Technische Universität Berlin and ide3a partner universities.
Basic knowledge of at least one programming software (e.g. Python, MATLAB) is desirable.
