Slide international alliance for digital
e-learning, e-mobility and e-research
in academia

ide3a is a collaborative project in the higher education sector involving a multidisciplinary and international consortium. This network of European universities is a living lab for developing new tools for the digitalisation of teaching and learning in the internationalisation process, with a particular focus on interdisciplinary research-based learning and short-term mobility in international blended learning formats.

Our partners are:

  • Cracow University of Technology (Poland)
  • Dublin City University (Ireland)
  • Norwegian University of Science and Technology (Norway)
  • Politecnico di Milano (Italy)
  • Technische Universität Berlin (Germany)

Smart ide3a school series in winter term 2020/2021

Our smart ide3a school series is a new and unique offer for you as a student at one of our partner universities to dive into the world of digitalisation of critical infrastructure.

From a transdisciplinary standpoint (i.e. mechanical engineering, computing science, urban planning, and environmental engineering), we teach you the current state of art in this highly dynamic research field and encourage you to find new ways and to develop your own ideas together with us.

We highly encourage you to take the ‘whole package’ (either in this term or in the years to come). Students who score all three schools will be awarded a special ‘ide3a diploma’, signed by all five member universities.

Smart Sensing

WHEN? 5 – 9 October 2020
WHERE? Online
HOW MANY? 6 ECTS

Our block course “Smart Sensing” will take place in the winter semester from October 5th to 9th 2020 as an online course. Students will have the opportunity to gain knowledge about the latest advances on measurement methods using digital sensors (e.g. Internet of Things) applied in different fields of critical infrastructure (e.g. water, energy, sensor networks). During the school, the students will learn about different aspects of critical urban infrastructure and then solve a practical problem given in a hackaton format, to be addressed as a teamwork activity. The block course is structured in a series of lectures and tutorials provided by lecturers of Technische Universität Berlin and ide3a partner universities.

Basic knowledge of at least one programming software (e.g. Python, MATLAB) is desirable.

Registration is closed!

Selection criteria: Submission date – Home university (equal number of students from each ide3a partner university) – Education level (M.Sc. > Ph.D. > B.Sc.)

We will notify you about your registration status straight after the submission deadline in mid-September.

Smart Buildings

WHEN? 23 – 27 November 2020
WHERE? Online
HOW MANY? 6 ECTS

Our lecture series “Smart Buildings” will take place in the winter semester from November 23rd to 27th 2020 as an online course. This year the main topic of the school will be IoT sensor systems and applications for water/energy monitoring in smart buildings. During the school, students will learn about different aspects of the above topic, including metering technologies for more digital and sustainable buildings, along with technical, environmental, and social implications and then solve a practical problem given in a hackaton format, to be addressed as a teamwork activity. Particular focus will be devoted to sensor data processing and data science techniques for modelling water and energy processed in smart buildings. The block course is structured in a series of lectures and exercises provided by tutorials of Technische Universität Berlin and ide3a partner universities.

Basic knowledge of at least one programming software (e.g. Python, MATLAB) is desirable.

Smart Cities

WHEN? 25 – 29 January 2021
WHERE? Online/Berlin (if possible)
HOW MANY? 6 ECTS

Our lecture series “Smart Cities” will take place in the winter semester from January 25th to 29th 2021 as an online course or at Technische Universität Berlin (if the situation in respect to Covid-19 allows us to do so). Students will have the opportunity to gain knowledge about distributed stream processing in the context of critical urban infrastructures. During the school, students will learn about different aspects of interconnected critical urban infrastructure (e.g., water, energy, sensor networks) at various spatial and temporal scales. The overall digitalization of such infrastructure and its opportunities and challenges for resilient critical urban infrastructure, are going to be emphasized. Particular emphasis will be devoted to analyse joint strategies for better monitoring and management of interconnected infrastructure, cascading effects, and overall system resilience. Also, they will solve a practical problem format, to be addressed as a teamwork activity. The block course is structured in a series of lectures and exercises provided by lecturers of Technische Universität Berlin and ide3a partner universities.

Basic knowledge of at least one programming software (e.g. Python, MATLAB) is desirable.
